Style Spotting at Mumbai’s Most Stylish Awards

HT Mumbai's Most Stylish
HT Mumbai’s Most Stylish
Over the weekend, HT hosted their annual Mumbai’s Most Stylish Awards at ITC Grand Central. The turnout was a slew of A-listers who turned up wearing some pretty neat duds. Shah Rukh Khan looked dapper in a tuxedo while Kangana Ranaut, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone brought their A-game to the red carpet. Want to know all the outfit deets? Read more.

KANGANA RANAUT:

Kangana Ranaut looked absolutely smashing in this Burberry tuxedo. I love her take on androgynous dressing. It made her stand out against the sea of gowns and dresses. The nude shoes paired perfectly while her hair and make-up looked flawless.

RICHA CHADDA:

Richa Chadda picked a sleek DRVV dress that she paired with black sandals. Perfection.

DEEPIKA PADUKONE:

I felt a slight sense of déjà vu seeing Deepika Padukone wear this shimmery DvF outfit. The wrap dress silhouette and material was similar to the Gucci maxi she wore to her success bash. Side-swept loose curls and smokey eyes rounded off her appearance.

PRIYANKA CHOPRA:

Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra chose a Victoria Beckham two-toned body-con dress from her  pre-spring/summer 2014 collection. I love the peach/maroon combination. Take a look at the back.

Isn’t it super sexy with the exposed zipper? A sleek ponytail and berry lips rounded off her appearance. She was styled by the talented Ami Patel.

LISA HAYDON:

Lisa Haydon wore a sexy Shivan & Narresh gown from their Fontana collection. Showing off her luscious curves – only Haydon could have really pulled off this look with aplomb.

MALAIKA ARORA KHAN:

Malaika Arora Khan

I give props to Malaika Arora Khan for opting for something other than bodycon or super short – however I don’t think this Pankaj & Nidhi gown is working for her – I wish she had done something different with her hair.

KAJOL:

Kajol

At first glance, I didn’t like Kajol’s look but it’s grown on me. She wore a Kunal Anil Tanna ensemble. However, the make-up was a complete flop.

SONAKSHI SINHA:

Sonakshi Sinha wore a pink draped gown that she accessorized with a Manish Arora for Amrapali ring.

TISCA CHOPRA:

Tisca Chopra
Tisca Chopra
In my opinion, Tisca Chopra looked a tad overdressed for the event. The actress picked a black voluminous Gauri & Nainika gown which looked fabulous on her – but it didn’t suit the event in mind, when everyone else was outfitted in sheath dresses.

The Rajasthan-inspired collection portrays the myriad moods of Anita’s bridal muse – Nayantara – a young effervescent girl who challenges convention yet loves all things traditional. Coming from a royal lineage, Nayantara epitomises modern day feminity juxtaposed with a free-spirited adventurous spirit. Her style sensibilities allow her to beautifully marry the timelessness of tradition with the simplicity of contemporary design

5 Things to Look Forward to in Anita Dongre’s ‘Varanasi Weaves’

True luxury is as beautiful on the inside as the outside

True luxury is as beautiful on the inside as on the outsideUndeniably, India has a rich history of textile. Each state offers to spin magic on their loom, their weaves – so vastly different from the next, all flowing with exquisite craftsmanship and heritage. To honour this tradition, Lakme Fashion Week dedicates a day to Indian Textile, and selects a designer to celebrate the same with their collection, thus bridging the gap between folk culture and contemporary fashion. This year, on 14th March, Anita Dongrewill present “Varanasi Weaves” on India Textile Day at The Lakme Fashion Week summer/resort 2014. We, at Team MissMalini, had the opportunity to preview the beautiful line during the fittings. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the things that we’re looking forward to on the 14th:

1. SUMMER COTTONS

Keeping in mind Indian temperatures, Anita has used the perfect fabric for her collection. The handwoven cottons will breathe an air of freshness as the celsius rises. The intelligent application of this simple fabric through a variety of patterned weaves and light embroideries will definitely see the designs go to Caribbean vacations or even a beach wedding.

2. BREEZY RUSTIC WEAVES

Anita has retained the simplistic beauty of the tradional textile in her handwoven fabrics from Varanasi. Cotton brocades tease with their basic – solid over sheer patterns. We noticed an interesting blocking with different motifs – triangles, diagonal stripes, lattice patterns and a floral jaal blend together in a single understated colour, lending a statuesque sihlouette to the wearer.

3. EASY FEMININE SHAPES

The collection offers a wide rage of options in separates. Clean lines in contemporary shapes were patiently donned by the models who looked as fresh as ever. The silhouettes range from straight cuts to flares. The pristine white column gowns are quite desirable. Anita Dongre’s easy prêt shapes will make you feel every bit a woman.

4.VINTAGE COLOUR PALLETE

When you see the collection, you’ll know that the designer had the scorching summer heat in mind while selecting her colours. The palette is an airy vintage wash of old rose, buttercup yellows and powder blues interspersed with muted nudes and dull gold with white as the prominent feature.

5.FEATHERY EMBROIDERY

Embellishment has been kept to the minimum (which is a nice thing -the last thing you want to wear in 40 degrees is a sack full of heavy sequins). Intricate patterns with beads and threadwork have been sewn by hand, in perfect harmony with the lightness of the clothes.
The collection will be available in stores two weeks from the date of the show. While we wait for the 14th to see the entire range, take a look at some candid moments from the fittings.
